An item is a physical product. It represents a unit that has an specific serial number. For example:
I have as a product an iPhone 15. One of the variants of my product is an iPhone 15 red 32GB.
When a customer wants to rent an iPhone 15 red 32GB, I'm going to assign them one item with a serial number from the ones I have in my shop.
Items will allow you to have the complete life cycle information of a product with a serial number!
With Items you can:
Know where the item is
Know how much money you've earned with a particular item
See how many rotations an item has had
